"Workplace Leadership edited by Dr. Robin Lindbeck and Dr. Vince Nix is a comprehensive anthology that provides readers with valuable insights into practical leadership skills and capabilities. The book articulates leadership as a vital influence within organizations and delves into the multidimensional competencies necessary for effective workplace leadership. It dissects leadership into its core constructs, including theories, ethics, and the aspects of leading oneself, others, and the entire organization. The text invites readers to examine classic and emerging leadership theories and topics such as coaching, communications, motivation, team efficacy, systems thinking, and organizational change. Throughout, applied exercises enhance understanding and the practical adoption of leadership competencies. This makes Workplace Leadership" an ideal resource for courses focused on organizational leadership, business management, and human resource development. While definitely focused on being used as a resource for academia, I found that it also serves as an excellent book for emerging leaders, aiming to develop and refine their leadership competencies and influence across a variety of settings."
Jarrod Solomon, MCSE, Chief Executive Officer, Computer Consultants Inc.

"Adaptable, consistent, effective, and proactive leadership is critical to success in any setting. Workplace Leadership is crafted in a way that brings a fresh perspective to what leadership is, how crucial leadership is in organizations and workplaces, and promotes ways to be an effective leader. Not only does Workplace Leadership contain various leadership strategies, inspired by well-known leadership scholars and current scholarly literature, but it also provides interactive and practical learning experiences. Readers will gain a robust understanding of successful leadership in the workplace. Workplace Leadership is organized into three units that include an introduction to leadership, leading self, and leading others. Within each chapter, learning objectives provide a guide into what will be covered in the chapter, followed by a thorough exploration of the topic. As well, each chapter has practical applications to consider that thoroughly supports each topic that is included. One of the strongest attributes of this work promotes that leadership skills and capabilities are adaptable to many situations. Students, administrators, faculty, and decisionmakers will find Workplace Leadership to be a useful source to gain a vast understanding and application of leadership."
Jess R. Gagliardi, Ed.D., Adams State University

"Workplace Leadership, edited by Robin Lindbeck and Vince Nix, is one of the most concise and helpful books on leading I have ever read, mainly because it intuited what I, as a leader, needed most: topical, logical, clear information to address specific challenges that arise in my everyday life. I think of it as my 'leadership cookbook,' because it has specific recipes supported by useful examples to zero in on what I most need to know in the moment. In addition to authoring several of the chapters, Lindbeck and Nix chose writers who share their style and vision so that the book feels less choppy than many textbooks—the point is clear from first to last: we are here to help you solve pressing and immediate problems in the easiest way possible. The book also steers away from dense chapters and distracting sidebars. Everything you need is right there, first to last, in a large, workbook-style format and clear headlines. The book is organized in practical categories stating exactly what will be in the chapters. If you want to delve into leadership theories the first chapters cover them, but you can skip right to the good stuff if you’re a busy executive or manager dealing with problems right now: giving and receiving feedback (one of my favorite chapters), leading change, coaching, resolving conflict, navigating workplace politics (another of my favorite chapters). All of that is easily accessible from the Table of Contents and simply laid out when you get there. Most literature on leadership focuses on the business world exclusively, with all examples and situations centered on making money or creating product. While anyone in a business environment would appreciate this book, I appreciate that it is an adaptable text for any kind of leader. I’ve had the advanced copy for a couple of months and have used it almost daily in my role as an academic dean at a medium-sized college."
Deidre Farrington Schoolcraft, Ed.D., Executive Dean of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, Pikes Peak State College

"As a small business owner and director of various companies, I see a real lack of the understanding of leadership. Workplace Leadership is a comprehensive discussion of the various types of leadership. The authors smoothly transition the reader from theory to practice through easily understood examples. This text could be used in the classroom as well as the workplace. I would highly recommend it for anyone wanting to better understand the art and the science of leadership and its application the real world."
Dyke Rogers, Founder of the Buffalo Council, West Texas A&M, Owner of Frontier Fuel Co. and Dalhart Real Estate

"If you seek a text designed and written to serve both as course content and a reference source in the field of leadership, you should check this out. The material is comprehensive and organized in a manner that works with an instructor to inform learning in a manner that will fit the course design of many different faculty members. You can assign an entire chapter and get a comprehensive consideration of the topic from research-based materials. But you can also go to individual sections to focus on a particular aspect, which can be useful to facilitate course discussions online or live. I like the approach of this book. The chapter "Political Savviness" is a standout contribution to an already excellent textbook, offering a well-structured and accessible exploration of a challenging topic. Organized around key professional competencies, the chapter provides a multifaceted framework for reflecting on the complex dynamics of workplace politics. Its use of clear, layman-friendly language is particularly commendable, as it effectively introduces readers to theoretical constructs that underpin the mastery of political skills essential for successful leadership. This approachable and practical method demystifies a subject often perceived as abstract or daunting, making it both refreshing and highly useful. Furthermore, the chapter seamlessly integrates with the broader themes of the textbook, reinforcing its overarching quality and coherence."
Dr. Brad Johnson, Clinical Professor, West Texas A&M University

"This textbook is an excellent resource on workplace leadership, presenting key research and leadership topics in a practical and easy to follow format. The inclusion of case study examples makes the book relatable and easy to understand. I highly recommend this book to students seeking a research-based pragmatic book on leadership that is easy to follow and understand."
