Raíces: Una aproximación comunicativa intercultural a la lengua española, Volumen tres is a communicative-based, learner-centric book designed to give Spanish 201 students opportunities to develop and practice Spanish in everyday situations.

Each chapter of the book features distinct sections—a) ¡A empezar!, b) ¡A conversar!, c) ¡A escuchar!, d) ¡A escribir!, and e) ¡A leer!—to help develop the students’ five language skills: writing, reading, speaking, listening, and cultural awareness. At the end of each lesson, is included Perspectiva cultural and ¡A pronunciar! or Ortografía. The text offers a variety of interactive and communicative exercises such as tongue-twisters, crosswords, riddles, real world tasks, role play, reading excerpts, short film discussion questions, and other listening exercises.

Students learn how to talk about jobs; use simple future; use informal commands; talk about places in the city, activities, and means of transportation; use present subjunctive with verbs of influence and emotion; express denial, doubt, and disbelief; and much more.

With emphases on practical application, conversational Spanish, and cultural understanding, this text is the third volume in a three-book series developed to help foster students’ language acquisition and speaking abilities.
