John DeCarlo is a professor and the director of the master’s program in criminal justice at the University of New Haven. He holds a Ph.D. and M.Phil. from the University of New York Graduate Center and an M.A. from the John Jay College of Criminal Justice. Dr. DeCarlo is a nationally recognized expert in community policing and on perceptions of race in policing. He previously was a member of the Branford Police force for 34 years, including 6 years as chief.
