Summary
Introduction to Counseling: Core Concepts and Meaningful Lessons for Beginners introduces students to the essentials of counseling theory, research, and practice with a focus on prose and content that is engaging, interesting, fun, and most importantly, personally relevant to their lives. The text is designed to inspire students and excite them about the prospects of helping others, as well as enjoying their future careers.

The concise, digestible chapters cover a variety of topics, including students’ initial concerns, doubts, and common fears related to entering the profession; how and why people make changes in their lives and how counseling helps; what characteristics make counselors truly exceptional; virtual and distance-based counseling options; relationships in the counselor’s own life; advocacy and making a difference with those most in need; expanded perspectives of cultural diversity; what counselors can learn from their clients; self-care strategies; and so much more.

Introduction to Counseling is a unique, vibrant, and exciting resource, an “untextbook” approach to preparing students for a career in counseling, human services, and the helping professions.
