Summary
Epidemiology: Principles and Methods for All Health Professionals is designed to address the specific needs and challenges of all health professionals. The textbook begins with a comprehensive introduction to the field of epidemiology, outlining its history and fundamental goals. It discusses statistical and valid statistical associations, including discussion of chance, bias, and confounding, as well as criteria for judging causality based on the totality of the evidence. The text explores various study designs, including descriptive and analytic studies, with detailed analyses on case reports, cohort studies, and randomized controlled trials. It further addresses epidemiological methods, such as risk measurement, and examines the internal and external validity of studies. The text highlights the role of epidemiology in disease prevention, health promotion, surveillance, evidence-based public health policy, and clinical practice.
